My Woodie & more

This page is all about Woodie - my T&C... Plus, my other car - Ghost......

Well, I just had to do it....  I mean, I've got a big of information here and there about Woodie, but nothing SUPER serious....  So, that is what this page will be ALL about!

WOODIE

Here he is - WOODIE....  This is my 1994 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.  He is fully loaded with all the 'standard' features suitable for the top of the line - everything from every power adjustment available (windows, locks, seats, mirrors, the WORKS!) to full leather seating for up to seven people.  He's also got dual air conditioners and heaters, so that ALL the passengers can be comfy and cozy, no matter WHAT the weather is like.  Chrysler also saw fit to but the top of the line Infinity sound system - which puts 10 speakers in 6 locations throughout the van...  He's a veritable concert hall on wheels!

Woodie also has the factory 'standard' of the wood side trim.  This seems to be a point that some people love and some hate.  I really like the wood trim - it makes Woodie stand out from the crowd....  And, of course, it is also where he get's his name!

The best thing that Woodie has, and one of the rarest bits that is installed, is the factory All Wheel Drive system.  Powered by Chrysler's big 3.8 V6 motor, and working through the smooth and mostly reliable 4 speed electronic transmission, the All Wheel Drive system makes for great abilities over the road....  Whether it is raining, snowing, or sunny and bright, Woodie is much like the post office - 'Neither Rain, nor snow, nor the dead of night can keep me from my appointed rounds!'  The AWD system adds about 300 poiunds to the weight (over the normal, front wheel drive version) and affects the gas mileage a bit, plus it requires a different fuel tank and system...  Just a bit smaller (at 18 gallons) than the 'standard' model (at 20 gallons)....

This picture was taken during the summer of 2002, and shows Woodie in his 'teal green metallic' paint....  The original color was a darker Emerald/Evergreen type of color, but, like many 90s era US built vehicles, the paint was peeling and he had been repainted.  But, that 2nd paint job has been peeling a bit and has faded on the bumpers and on the roof...

NEW Woodie....

Here he is.... the NEW and IMPROVED Woodie - showing off his NEW coat of paint.  Woodie is still green, but lost the 'blue' of the teal and back to a TRUE green color.  The new color is called 'Cedar Green' metallic...  He's not as dark as the original, but he SURE is be pretty!

Now, mind you, this is the day that I picked up Woodie from the shop - so the wheels and tires aren't too clean!  They washed the outside, but neglected the wheels and the white walls...  Ah, well...  Just gives me a reason to do it and post some MORE pictures, no?

Anyway, the story behind the whole ordeal is that I left work one evening to get some gas... when I got back to the office, I got out and closed the door.  but, it bounced right back open again...  Tried to shut it again and it bounced open again....  I looked about under the door panel and couldn't find anything wrong.  So, the next day, Woodie was off to my local Dodge dealer (as the local Chrysler dealer is a jip joint - but that's too long a story)....  Anyway, Dodge calls me up and it's that the door hinges are coming apart from the door and it needs to be rewelded.  But, they've got no body shop to do the work and so I have to take Woodie around to some shops for estimates.....  Fun stuff, no?

I was talking to my mom, and she reminded me that her van (Big Blue - see other places on this site!) had been repainted by MAACO, after she had heard an ad down here, while visiting.  She went back home to Vegas and called the local MAACO there and got the job done....  And they did a really GREAT job for her....  So I headed out to the local MAACO (it's in Stanton, California) and got my estimate.  I also asked him how much a paint job would be, as the repaint had been showing some 'faded' spots and some peeling, just like the original had been peeling.  So, for just over .00, they rewelded my door and painted Woodie from top to bottom, stem to stern.  And they did a GREAT job!

If you need a paint job or some body work - check out YOUR local MAACO....  Maybe you'll get just as good a job as I did!!!

Gray Ghost

Here's my Ghost - a 1986 Dodge 600ES Turbo convertible.  These were a kind of rare breed in the Chrysler product line.  While Chrysler was churning out tens of thousands of the 'Super K' convertible models (the Chrysler LeBaron and the Dodge 400 and 600 models), there were a few 'rare' exceptions that came across the marketplace - notably the Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country convertible and the Dodge 600 ES convertible.  Both of these cars came with the 'optional' Mark Cross leather interior package, which included a 2 tone leather interior, with leather covered seats and steering wheel.  These models also had the digital instrument panels, but the 600 ES had a tachometer, while the LeBaron had the 'Traveller' trip mini computer.  What really made them different, though, was that the LeBaron was more luxury oriented, while the Dodge held a sportier image, including lots of blacked out trim, big 15" alloy wheels from the Daytona models, and the 2.2 liter Turbo Trans-4 motor under the hood.  Quite a sporty little package...

TOPPER - the first 600ES

Here's TOPPER....  Topper is a 1985 Dodge 600ES....  See above for more on these cars....  1984 was the first year of this optional model and it appeared partway through the model year.  1985 was the first FULL year of production for this trim level and was quite a great year for the model.  This was also the last year of the pointed front end that had ties back to the late 70s and early 80s Dodge Mirada models.  The 1985 model ES had a 'slatted' body color grill with chrome accents.  The headlights were housed in seperate openings an had a look quite different from the sister LeBaron models.  Plus, the 85 models had a decklid luggage rack, and some fender side faux louvres, for quite the sporty look.

Another Long Beach Town & Country Woodie

I found this Woodie on the road - right here in Long Beach....  This is another 1994 Chrysler Town & Country, but it's not the AWD version, like mine.  This one has the 'spiral cast' wheels that were new for 1994.  I've got what Chrysler calls the 'bullet cast' or 'cathedral cast'...  Someobody at the Chrysler dealer must have wanted Woodie's wheels when he was brand new, so they made a swap...  This one also has the body color accents on the wheels...  See how the rear wheel is showing the white paint?  The front is just a bit dirty and you can't see the white.
